Né à Paris, Gabriel Vitaux a passé une grande partie de sa jeunesse dans les quartiers de Saint-Germain-des-Prés et de Saint-Michel, au bord de la Seine. C’était l’époque dite de l’Age d’Or, où ces quartiers, sans doute pas plus étendus que le Vieux Carré de La Nouvelle-Orléans, étaient le "Centre du Monde" pour des artistes en herbe qui accouraient de toutes parts. Gabriel Vitaux vit intensément cette époque où il rencontre beaucoup de musiciens avec lesquels il organise ensuite des concerts. 

Entre temps, Gabriel a l’occasion d’effectuer des séjours outre Atlantique. 

Gabriel Vitaux a exercé tour à tour les métiers de décorateur dans la publicité, le cinéma, le patrimoine, et de concepteur d’expositions d’art et thématiques. Il a longtemps travaillé dans l’action culturelle, l’éducation, la médiation artistique. La photographie, et souvent la vidéo, ont accompagné ses activités professionnelles. Parmi les multiples expositions qu’il a organisées, on peut citer : les Arts d’Afrique de l’Ouest, les Forgerons du Voodou (Haïti), Panorama de la littérature canadienne d’expression française, Boris Vian, son œuvre aux multiples facettes…

Et pour les expositions photographiques personnelles : "Montréal, deuxième métropole francophone du monde", "Louisiane - New Orleans", "Tag Rag Time (New-York, Paris, Barcelone)", "Villages circulaires médiévaux du Languedoc"…

Gabriel Vitaux a écrit pour la scène des spectacles tels "Saint-Germain-des-Prés, l’Age d’Or" (où il était beaucoup question de Jazz !), "Boris, es-tu là ?" pour le 50e anniversaire de la mort de Boris Vian.

Il a publié récemment trois livres de photographies sur des terroirs d’Occitanie, et un livre bilingue Français/anglais sur la Nouvelle Orléans et le Sud de la Louisiane.

Born in Paris, Gabriel Vitaux spent a large part of his youth in the neighborhoods of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Saint-Michel on the banks of the Seine. It was known as the "Golden Age", where these neighborhoods, probably no bigger than the French Quarter in New Orleans, were considered to be the "Center of the Universe" by young artists who had gathered there from all over.

Gabriel Vitaux was intensely involved in this period where he met many musicians with whom he would later organize concerts. 

In the meantime, Gabriel had the chance to travel across the Atlantic. 

Gabriel Vitaux has worked as a decorator and designer in advertising, film, cultural heritage, and as a creator and curator of art and thematic exhibitions. He devoted himself extensively to cultural action, education, and artistic mediation for many years. Photography and often video have accompanied his professional activities. To name just a few of the multitude of exhibitions he has organized: "The Arts of Western Africa", "Voodoo Blacksmiths" (Haiti), "A Panorama of Canadian Francophone Literary Expression", "The work of the multi-faceted Boris Vian".

And his personal photographic shows: "Montreal, second largest francophone city in the world", "Louisiana-New Orleans", "Tag Rag Time (New York, Paris, Barcelona)", "Circular Medieval Villages of the Languedoc"...

He has written for the stage, and recently published three books of photography on the terroirs of Occitanie, and one about New Orleans and Southern Louisiana.
